My very first surplus bag was a korean war gas mask bag. I had that thing for years. Think i paid less than 5 bucks at a trade show when i was around 14 or 15.

Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia, thank you for your time to make these videos. I thinking why don’t you add a net to the outside of the haversack, with a lock cord for adjustment, multiple uses, just an idea for you to think about.

Try Sawyer Picaridin insect repellent comes in a spray or lotion…I use the lotion to keep ticks out of my body wear your clothing has openings neck face hands above your socks especially ears. Then spray your clothes with Sawyer Permethrin it last 6 weeks or six washes the stuff is great. I have a lot of deer and wildlife so we get a ton of ticks but not with the Sawyer stuff and it helps with mosquitoes and I have a fish pond. Have fun stay safe.

So Blackie, I really like your channel. I have been subscribed for a while now. one question I have to ask, is why are you useing an image of some old man that only vaguely resembles you in your video title clips? you are NOT an ugly man. it should be your face out there. And, I have to agree with you on merino wool. my brother turned me onto them several years ago. GOOD stuff.

Eating more onions and garlic in your diet helps keep the flies and mosquitoes away naturally. I had an old Warrant Officer that was in the Vietnam war and he always ate onions, onion soup, fresh garlic, and garlic salt. He told me to add that to my diet and you would not need to use repellents. Plus repellents worked against you as the enemy could smell you. Onions and garlic made you smell more like the enemy. The acids in onions and garlic leach out in your sweat and keeps the mosquitoes and flies away. I started do that when I deployed to Central and South America and it worked. Works great here in the U.S..

Hello, sir! I just wanted to say that I'd be willing to pay top dollar for one of your haversacks. If you're making a premium product, it's reasonable that I pay a premium price for it. That said, perhaps the cost would come down a bit if you shipped us the materials and had us assemble it ourselves. It would offer a little room for us to make our own modest modifications and would save your niece some time. To go even further, you could sell the assembly instructions and specific items (how to make oilcloth/waxed canvas, which zippers and snaps you recommend, etc) and have us buy exactly what we need. That would bring the number of shipments down to one; supplier to us, because you could send the instructions by email. Just riffing here. Take care out there!

As a Florida bowhunter for over 30 years I treat clothes and boots with Permethrin, run a Thermocell for mosquitos and wear a pricey but affective Shannon's Bug Tamer. Too hot? Dip it in water and put it back on. Great video.

I am not a medical professional, but most folks would benefit from B 12 and other supplemts due to the lack of nutrients in the soil and the American diet. Please consult with your Doctor prior to making any changes in the supplements you are considering taking. Everyone is different.

Is the spacer a Trangia wind shield ? If so what size it the 27 or the 25 ? And what is the black thing around it? Thanks for the video probably works better than the Coleman oven that you would use on the stove. My understanding with the Coleman oven you need to use a small pizza stone on the bottom inside the oven to also reduce the heat to stop from burning the biscuits.

Wore them all of my life. Dad was a lifer. I still have mine issued to me in the 70s and three liners. With layers to go between the three and the jacket you can go from slightly cold to full blown freeze and all three of them compressed in a bag weigh nothing in my pack. Learning to shuck or add layers at the correct time is the key.

I actually enjoy making well designed bags. Being a woman, I can imagine using beautiful colored or patterned canvas and adding decorative stitching. 😅 Yeah. That’s just my bent. 🤭

Blackie, Thanks for the great info. One big point. You are a cat lover, as I. Please let all your followers know Permethrin is TOXIC to cats. Yes I know we are not going to spray our cats with it, but when we treat our clothes with it, we have to keep our cats away, and keep them away from us, when we are wearing the treated clothes. Same with Thermacell Mosquito repellent, keep your cats away, please. Thank You.
